High-Dose Mineral Supplements
Historical claim, not recommended: an old source urged megadosing zinc, selenium, and germanium to build immunity, but these amounts are toxic.
🛑 RemedyRank warns against this
Long-term zinc over about 40 mg a day can cause nausea, copper deficiency, and weakened immunity rather than stronger immunity.
This page exists so the reasons are written down plainly, not because the practice is recommended. Nothing is sold here. If a doctor has prescribed something for a diagnosed condition, follow their guidance — that is a decision between you and them, and it is a different thing from trying this at home.

🌱 What it is
This is a stack of high-dose mineral pills, zinc 50 mg three times daily, selenium 300 to 900 mcg a day, and germanium 50 mg a day, taken well above safe everyday intakes.
📜 Where it comes from
In the mid-twentieth-century megavitamin movement, an older remedy book urged readers to "build" immunity with large daily doses of zinc, selenium, and germanium, far beyond ordinary dietary amounts. The idea was that more of a mineral must mean more protection.
🙏 Begin with prayer
Prayer is the first remedy, not the last resort. Whether you are facing this yourself, caring for someone who is, or simply reading to understand — here is a simple prayer you are welcome to make your own, in your name or in theirs:
Father, You are my refuge in sickness as in health. I do not know how this will turn out, but I know You will not turn from me when I seek You sincerely. Stay near me through the uncomfortable days, give wisdom to those who care for me, and let even this trouble draw me closer to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”— Psalm 46:1
🥄 How to use it
RemedyRank does not recommend this. Get zinc and selenium from ordinary food and see a doctor before supplementing at anything beyond standard label doses.
How much: None. Not recommended at any dose.
Why it works: The old claim supposed that flooding the body with minerals would strengthen the immune systemYour body's built-in defense team that fights off germs and helps you heal. More →, but in reality zinc above about 40 mg a day can cause nausea and copper deficiency and may actually weaken immunity, while excess selenium and germanium are outright toxic.
⚠️ Cautions
- Long-term zinc over about 40 mg a day can cause nausea, copper deficiency, and weakened immunity rather than stronger immunity.
- Selenium over about 400 mcg a day is toxic, causing hair and nail loss and nerve damage.
- Germanium supplements have been linked to kidney failure and are not recommended at any dose.
- People with kidney disease or those on other supplements are at greatest risk of harm.
- A doctor, not a bottle of pills, should guide any mineral supplementation beyond food.
