Caring for the body as a gift
At RemedyRank we believe true wellness is more than a set of rules — it's a kind way of caring for the life we've been given. The eight laws of health, remembered as NEWSTART, line up beautifully with simple themes found all through the Bible. Here's a gentle look at each one. Take what helps you, and feel free to leave the rest.
🥦 Nutrition
From the very first pages of the Bible, people were given plants — fruits, grains, and seeds — for food (Genesis 1:29). Eating simple, wholesome food made by the Creator is one of the kindest things we can do for our bodies. "So whether you eat or drink… do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)
🚶 Exercise
Our bodies were made to move. Scripture is full of people walking, working, and tending gardens. A body that moves each day stays stronger and lighter in spirit. Gentle daily activity is a quiet way to say thank you for the strength we've been given.
💧 Water
Water cleans, refreshes, and gives life — which is why the Bible so often uses it as a picture of renewal and hope. "Whoever believes in me… rivers of living water will flow from within them." (John 7:38) Drinking enough water each day is a small, faithful habit that helps your whole body work well.
☀️ Sunshine
Light is one of God's first gifts in the creation story, and a little safe sunshine still lifts our mood and helps our bodies make vitamin D. Stepping outside for morning light is a simple, joyful way to begin the day. "Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun." (Ecclesiastes 11:7)
🌿 Temperance
Temperance means balance and self-control — enjoying good things in healthy amounts and gently turning away from what harms us. The Bible counts self-control among the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23). It isn't about being harsh with ourselves; it's about freedom and peace.
🌬️ Air
The very breath in our lungs is described as a gift from God (Genesis 2:7). Fresh, clean air and a few slow, deep breaths can calm a racing heart and clear a tired mind. When life feels heavy, sometimes the kindest thing is simply to breathe.
😴 Rest
Rest is woven right into the rhythm of creation — even the Maker rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2–3). Good sleep and a true day of rest each week renew the body and the soul. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)
🕊️ Trust in God
The last letter of NEWSTART is the one that holds the others together. Worry wears the body down, but trust brings peace. Handing our cares to God — through prayer, gratitude, and quiet moments — is good for the heart in every sense. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
