The call to sexual fidelity within marriage and restraint outside it appears throughout the Bible, from the Ten Commandments through Paul's letters, and has been a cornerstone of Christian moral teaching for two millennia. Battle Creek health educators in the 19th and 20th centuries folded this teaching into their broader health message, noting that faithfulness protects against disease as well as heartbreak. It remains one of the oldest and most consistently taught practices in the health writings of the church.
