🔬 The science, kept simple
Fiber is the plant material your own enzymes cannot break down... and that is its gift. Insoluble fiber adds bulk and keeps everything moving; soluble fiber forms a gel that slows sugar absorption and carries cholesterol out; and your gut bacteria ferment both into compounds that feed the colon's own cells. Only plants have it. Nine out of ten people do not get enough.
Why you need it: Regularity, steadier blood sugar, lower cholesterol, a well-fed gut microbiome, and lasting fullness that makes weight control easier.
Daily target: About 38 g a day for men, 25 g for women; the average intake is barely half that.
📖 In Scripture
Every food in the Eden diet (Genesis 1:29)... fruit, grain, seed, and green plant... comes wrapped in fiber. Refining strips it out; eating food as given puts it back.
