🥄 How to use it

Dab a little alcohol-free witch hazel onto clean skin with a cotton pad. Use on the outside of the skin only.

How much: Dab onto clean, intact skin with a cotton pad 2–3 times a day as needed. For outside use only.

Show full details & how to prepare it

Witch hazel is made from the bark and leaves of a small shrub, and its skin-soothing power comes from natural compounds called tannins. Tannins are gently astringent — they make skin proteins draw together slightly, which calms redness, tightens and cools irritated skin, and eases the itch of bites, razor bumps, and minor flare-ups.

It is a quiet workhorse of the medicine cabinet: a dab settles the sting of bug bites and mild breakouts, and it is a classic comfort for the swelling and itch of hemorrhoids (many ready-made pads are simply witch hazel on a wipe).

Choose an alcohol-free witch hazel where you can — plain alcohol versions can be drying. It is for the outside of intact skin only; never swallow it, and try a small test spot first in case your skin is sensitive.

Ways to prepare it

Soothing dab: Moisten a cotton pad with alcohol-free witch hazel and gently press it onto a bite, blemish, or irritated patch. Let it air-dry; repeat 2–3 times a day.
Cool compress: Chill the bottle, soakResting a body part (or the whole body) in warm, treated water. How to make a soak a clean cloth, and hold it as a compressA cloth soaked in warm or cold liquid, held on the skin. How to make a compress on itchy or puffy skin for 5–10 minutes.
Hemorrhoid relief: Apply to the area with a cotton pad after bathing, or use ready-made witch-hazel pads, a few times a day and after each bowel movement.
