Kudzu is a fast-growing vine whose root has been used in traditional Chinese medicine and contains the plant compound puerarin.
📜 Where it comes from
Kudzu root has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, prescribed in classic formulas to ease muscle tension and support the body during fevers and, notably, to help with the effects of excessive drinking. Its compound puerarin drew modern scientific interest in the twentieth century for cardiovascular research. Kudzu is also well known in the West as a fast-spreading vine introduced to America in the late nineteenth century, long before its medicinal use became familiar outside Chinese medicine.
