🌱 What it is
Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder made from the fossilized shells of tiny aquatic organisms (diatoms), used food-grade for pantry pest control.
✨ Why it's good for you
- Chemical-free pest deterrent for stored grain
- Inexpensive and long-lasting
- Simple to use
🙏 Begin with prayer
Prayer is the first remedy, not the last resort. Whether you are facing this yourself, caring for someone who is, or simply reading to understand — here is a simple prayer you are welcome to make your own, in your name or in theirs:
Father, I thank You for the small, hidden things of creation — even the tiny shells of long-ago sea creatures, ground fine, that now help protect the grain we store for our family's table. Thank You for providing for our needs in such quiet, ordinary ways. Give me wisdom to use this food-grade powder safely and carefully. In Jesus' name, Amen.
“The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.”— Psalm 145:15-16
🥄 How to use it
Mix a cupful of food-grade diatomaceous earth into each 5-gallon bucket of stored dry grain to help deter insects.
How much: About 1 cup of food-grade DE per 5-gallon bucket of stored grain.
Why it works: The abrasive silica particles damage the waxy coating of small insects, causing them to dehydrate, without using chemical pesticides.
⚠️ Cautions
- Use only food-grade diatomaceous earth with 1% or less crystalline silica content; pool-grade DE is toxic and not for food or body use.
- Avoid inhaling the fine dust — wear a mask when handling.
- Not intended for internal or medicinal use without guidance from a healthcare provider.
