Herb

Hyssop

An aromatic biblical herb, brewed as tea, traditionally used to help loosen a chesty cough and ease colds.

🌱 What it is

Hyssop is a fragrant, purple-flowered herb mentioned many times in Scripture, historically used in cleansing rituals and long valued in herbal tradition for soothing coughs and colds.

✨ How it may help

  • Traditionally used to help loosen a chesty cough
  • May help soothe minor cold and congestion symptoms
  • Has a long history of traditional respiratory support
  • Makes a warming, aromatic tea

🥄 How to use it

Steep 1 teaspoon of dried hyssop in hot water for 10 minutes and sip, sweetened with honey, for a cough or cold. Use the dried herb and tea only, never the concentrated essential oil internally.

⚖️ Caution

Use the herb or tea only — hyssop essential oil can trigger seizures and must never be taken internally. Avoid in pregnancy, breastfeeding, in children, and with seizure disorders. Keep to modest tea amounts.

🍃 A note from nature

Hyssop is named in the Bible as a plant used for purification, from the Passover in Egypt to the hyssop branch offered at the crucifixion.
